Sorry for the delayed post...everything is fine...technological difficulties, no driving accidents! We successfully navigated our way to Collodi, Italy, the home of Parco di Pinocchio! Cameras ready, we took many photos of the statues and sculptures depicting the characters and story elements of Pinocchio. Here is an interesting tidbit we learned...the original Pinocchio had a white hat. If see you the Pinocchio with the white hat, you are seeing a Collodi Pinocchio. We then drove to Florence to see places where Collodi lived and died. After using our map skills, we found the two hidden streets and plaques designating his apartments. It is amazing to see the love of Pinocchio in all of Italy...he is everywhere! Our innkeeper, Anna, said she remembers going to Parco di Pinocchio as a young girl. It is nice to see Collodi and his work are still held in high esteem. When visiting bookstores in big cities or small towns, Pinocchio has his own section. We have enjoyed looking for Italian versions to bring back to our classrooms. Teachers in a bookstore? watch out! We have been very good with our spending.
We went to Rome in high anticipation of watching Geppetto make us our very own Pinocchio. We had emailed in advance our day of arrival to confirm that he would indeed be there. Yes, he would! So, we ventured to Rome (note: we did NOT drive in Rome) and were able to partake in the Papel address in Vatican City. We hadn't even notified the Pope we were coming, but he was there. Apparently, Geppetto forgot about our appointment and went on a cruise. The workers at the toy shop felt our pain and gave us DVDs of Geppetto making Pinocchio for free and the location of the best gelato in town! We look forward to using the Pinocchios we purchased in our classrooms.
Hopefully, we will be able post photos soon! Be a good real boy (or girl) and don't tell any lies, so your nose doesn't grow! Ciao!

He is not Geppetto, but a good sport who posed for a photo-op!
